FB:  FACILITIES PLANNING

The Committee recognizes that educational programs are substantially influenced by the environment within which they function.  The development of a quality educational program and school facilities to implement it go hand in hand.  Community and staff input are important to the development of facility plans.

It is the Committee’s goal to provide the appropriate facilities needed for the number of students in the town and to provide the kind of facilities that will best support and accommodate the educational program.  To this end, there should always be a current Five Year Facilities Plan on file with the Committee that incorporates high educational utility and flexibility, access to and use by the disabled, sound economics, low long-range maintenance costs and energy efficiency, low insurance rates and high-quality design.

School Building Committee(s) appointed by the School Committee will supervise construction/renovation project(s) and provide periodic updates to the School Committee.

Building Committee(s’) membership will be commensurate with the size, nature and complexity of each project with a maximum of nine members.  The membership will have a minimum of one School Committee member, one principal, one member of the community at large and one teacher.

The Superintendent or his/her designee will attend all Building Committee meetings and act as a liaison officer and will ensure that official minutes of each meeting are taken.  He/she will have no vote.

If a School Building Committee has been appointed, the School Committee will consider its recommendations prior to:
